The Verbal Reasoning section examines your ability to analyse the given topics, understanding of relationships between the parts of the sentences, vocabulary skills, English language grammar, concepts and so on. Verbal ability section consists of variety of questions such as reading comprehension, text completion, sentence equivalence and so on.

In the Reading Comprehension (RC) section, you will be asked to read one or more paragraphs on a given topic or an argument and you will have to answer questions on the same. For answering RC questions, you will have to understand the central theme of the given topic, draw conclusions or inferences related to given topic, phrase the sentences and so on. You will be asked approximately ten RC questions in each verbal section.

A text completion (TC) sections demands you to fill the blanks in order, to complete the sentence. You may be given one, two or three blanks to fill and complete the sentence. For each blank in the sentence, you must select one correct answer choice from the appropriate column, mixing and matching your choice options until you come up with a right combination that makes sense. Roughly six such TC questions have  to be answered in each verbal section. To master TC questions, you should build a good English vocabulary and understand logical clues between the sentences and so on.

The Sentence equivalence (SE) segment asks you to fill a single blank with two choices that creates two logically similar sentences.  Approximately four SE type questions are asked in every verbal section. In order, to score good marks in SE section, you need to work on building your English language vocabulary and understanding the logical links or hints between the sentences.

You will have to complete Verbal Reasoning section in 1 Hour. Total 2 to 3 Verbal reasoning sections will appear in GRE exam in which one section is experimental section that is not counted for marks. So, 30 minutes for each of the two Verbal sections which come to total as 1 hour, will be given for Verbal Reasoning Section. The valid score range for this Verbal Reasoning section is 130 to 170.

The Quantitative Reasoning section tests your quantitative skills, ability to solve algebra, geometry, data analysis and other reasoning problems with quantitative methods. The Quantitative Aptitude questions are of many formats such as quantitative comparison, discrete quantitative questions and such like.

Quantitative comparison questions ask you to compare two quantities and ascertain the relationship between the two by taking any additional information given for the given comparison. You will approximately get eight such types of questions to solve in each Quantitative section. The Discrete quantitative questions are of three types, multiple choice questions, multiple answer questions and numeric entry questions. You have total 35 minutes to complete each section of the Quantitative Reasoning section. Total 2 to 3 Quantitative reasoning sections will appear in the GRE exam in which one section is experimental section that will not be counted for marks. Total 2 Quantitative reasoning sections are compulsory which means you will get total 1 Hour and 10 minutes to complete two sections of Quantitative Aptitude section. The valid score range for this Quantitative Reasoning section is 130 to 170.
